For Margie, founder of Get Cozy with Emme, rest wasn’t always her priority.
Prior to the pandemic, she jumped from role to role; employee, mother, wife, and friend, all with an expectation to honor everyone else before herself. Margie realized, however, that even her best efforts were causing harm to herself.
The constant hustle and grind of everyday life brought irreversible stress and pain to her body that could no longer be ignored. Margie needed to create her own lane.
Fibromyalgia Symptoms To Pay Attention To
According to the CDC, Fibromyalgia affects about 4 million US adults, about 2% of the adult population. Symptoms include, but is not limited to, pain and stiffness all over the body, fatigue and tiredness, depression and anxiety, sleep problems, problems with thinking (memory and concentration), and headaches, including migraines.
The CDC also reports, “You are more likely to have fibromyalgia as you get older.” However, through research, this does not exclude the fact that anyone at any age can experience fibromyalgia.

Margie has expressed the difficulties of living with the disease,“I live with fibromyalgia, and there are days when I cannot show up with 100 percent of my physical ability. I have to force myself to work through pain created by a perfect storm of symptoms,”
Margie continues, “The stress of health coupled with a pandemic was motivation enough to try and create my own lane.” The owner of Cozy with Emme strives for her hand-made throws to be a part of the journey for herself and others in their self-care routine.

With each intentional stitch, she urges mothers, sisters, and friends, including herself, to slow down and prioritize their rest even when no one else will. “I think it is so important for us to honor our bodies and rest. As mothers, friends, and sisters, we carry the weight of others and forget about ourselves,”.
